Sci-Fi Casting: Theron and Rapace for Alien, Headey in Dredd

A couple of casting news that should be of interest to sci-fi fans:

The first has “300′s” Lena Headey (aka Sarah Connor in “The Sarah Connor Chronicles”, gorgeously pictured to your left) playing the baddie in 2000 AD’s “Dredd”, their reboot of the sci-fi character currently starring Karl Urban as Judge Dredd himself and Olivia Thirlby as his sidekick, rookie psychic Judge Cassandra. Headey, who is said to already be shooting the movie, will play Ma-Ma, a drug-dealing kingpin who Dredd and Cassandra spend much of the movie battling in a tenement building.

In other sci-fi news, Ridley Scott’s “Alien” prequel (or is that prequels?) is currently hoping to cast its female lead, a character name Elizabeth Shaw, very soon, and it’s apparently down to two names: “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” star Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron. Word is, Scott really wants Rapace, who exploded onto the International scene after “Tattoo”, while the studio wants Theron as a hedge against the film’s big budget.

Also, Michael Fassbender is said to be in negotiations to play an android in the “Alien” prequel (and if you know anything about the “Alien” franchise, then you know the androids play a pretty pivotal part in these movies), and Chinese actress Michelle Yeoh is rumored to be up for the role of Vickers, described as “a fortysomething, tough-but-sexy crew member”.
