Mekhi Phifer and Arlene Tur Join Torchwood Season 4

It will officially be Season 4 of the BBC sci-fi/action-adventure show “Torchwood”, but for most American audiences, it’ll probably be their introduction to the show, which began life as a “Doctor Who” spin-off. Now word has Mekhi Phifer, late of Fox’s “Lie to Me”, joining John Barrowman and Eve Myles on the show as the American face to bring “Torchwood” to an all-new American audience.

On the show, Phifer will play Rex Matheson, a CIA agent and “fast-tracked high-flyer with a lethal sense of humor who starts to feel his mortality when his life is put in danger.”

Also joining the cast is Arlene Tur (“Crash”), who will have a recurring role. Pictured below, Tur will probably play Phifer’s partner on the show, but I could be wrong.

“Torchwood” Season 4 will continue on the BBC, but will also be broadcast on the Starz cable network in the States. The show stars Barrowman as Captain Jack, a time-traveling alien-fighter who leads a small group of Brits in their neverending fight against alien invaders and other assorted weirdness. In the more “American-ized” show, Matheson will run afoul of Captain Jack and eventually join forces.
